Sun in My Tummy: Teaching Renewable/Non-Renewable

This initiative introduced second-grade students to the concepts of renewable and nonrenewable energy through the engaging story The Sun in My Tummy. The story not only explained energy's role in everyday life but also linked it to food production, such as growing oatmeal and blueberries. Students responded creatively by drawing and writing about the energy processes involved, from sunlight powering plant growth to the use of other energy sources in farming. This hands-on activity combined environmental education with artistic expression, fostering awareness of sustainable food systems and the energy connections that support healthy living.
